Play Therapy

Children express their emotions through playtime. Play therapy allows children to work through tough challenges and develop healthy coping skills.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TBCBT allows children to learn healthy coping skills such as emotional regulation, relaxation, and cognitive coping.

Supportive Space

Play therapy lets children explore their emotions in a supportive space with their counselor.

Child Counseling

For children, play and toys are the way they express themselves. While a child is developing, they typically do not have the capacity to articulate themselves verbally or the attention span to sit on a couch and explain to a therapist what is going on inside. For this reason, counselors utilize the modality of play therapy with children that are developmentally under the age of 11. Typically, people start counseling on a weekly basis. This helps the client and therapist to build a trusting and working relationship while stabilizing symptoms. Once a client has progressed in treatment, they may move down to biweekly session or discontinue counseling if they are ready. Some clients attend biweekly sessions due to financial or time constraints. Biweekly sessions can  slow down changes. This option can be discussed with your counselor.

After scheduling your first appointment, you will be sent a link to a secure HIPAA portal to complete intake paperwork. The first session focuses on discussing expectations, intake information, and building a relationship with your therapist. Feel free to ask questions during this session! Your counselor will utilize assessments to ensure the best treatment approach for you. We will then begin working on specific goals tailored to your treatment.

Licensed Professional Counselor Associates are counselors who have completed their Master’s program and have completed a practicum and internship while they were in their Master’s program. They have obtained their degree and have passed the National Counselor’s Exam. LPC-Associates are in the process of obtaining 3,000 hours of clinical experience under the direct clinical supervision of an LPC Supervisor.

This is much like a doctor who is in residency and is working closely with a highly trained and experienced clinician. LPC Associates are required to attend a minimum of 4 hours of supervision each month where they receive individual support and case consultation from their supervisor. In addition, the LPC Supervisor reviews therapy process, notes, and cases in order to ensure that clients are receiving the highest level of care possible. Many LPC Associates have been working in the mental health field for many years accumulating a varied level of background education and experience.
