About
Phoenix Arise
Your Journey to Clinical Excellence Starts Here
I’m Nicole Black, and I’ve spent 10+ years in the mental health counseling field—first in private practice, then in a group practice, and in February 2017 I opened the doors of Phoenix Arise Counseling. My specialty is trauma across the lifespan. I’ve worked with clients as young as 2½ and up to age 75, meeting people wherever they are in their healing.
Find Your Clinical Match
My career has been devoted to helping people with all types of trauma and to training clinicians to do the same—ethically, skillfully, and with heart. I’m trained in EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and I provide consultation on complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and functional neurological disorder (FND). I also create practical tools for clinicians and clients working with dissociation and trauma.
- Products & Publications: I’ve developed therapeutic products used internationally in 19 countries, published in professional journals, and authored chapters in books.
- Consultation: I offer monthly group consultation and one-on-one consults when clinicians need deeper support with complex cases.
The Vision Behind Phoenix Arise
Phoenix Arise is more than a practice—it’s a scaffold where clinicians can cast their biggest visions within a supportive structure. Whether you’re early in your career or seasoned and ready for your next chapter, you’ll find space here to:
Grow Clinically
Deepen trauma work, learn new modalities, and build confidence with complex presentations (dissociation, complex trauma, FND).
Be Supportive
Monthly consultation, 1:1 case consults, and a team that cares about your development.
Create & Contribute
Pursue writing, create resources, collaborate on projects, and shape programs that serve our community.
How We Support Our Team (So You Can Focus on Clients)
We remove the distractions that pull you away from the work you love. Our structure (including W-2 employment) provides stability, supervision/mentorship, and operational support (intake, billing, marketing) so you can spend your energy on clinical care and professional growth.
Our Commitment to Exclusivity and Support
We’re all-in on our clinicians—our time, energy, education, and expertise are focused on your success. In return, we ask for that same focus. Phoenix Arise maintains a non-compete for current team members: while employed here, clinicians do not work for another group practice or run a separate private practice. If you currently do, joining us would mean closing that practice or leaving the other group practice. This clarity protects our clients, our team, and the depth of support we promise each clinician.
An Invitation
If you’re passionate about trauma-informed care and want a place to grow, create, and do excellent work alongside a supportive team, I’d love to connect. Whether your next step is supervision, mastering a new modality, publishing, or building programs that change lives—we’ll help you get there.
Empowering Clinicians to Dream Bigger
A Place to Innovate, Create, and Lead
At Phoenix Arise, we’re not just offering you a job. We’re offering you a platform to bring your biggest professional visions to life. As the founder, I, Dr. Nicole Black, have not only practiced and taught trauma-focused care, but also created therapeutic products used in 19 countries, published journal articles, and authored book chapters. I bring that same spirit of innovation and excellence to our practice.
We believe in providing a scaffold for you to cast your own professional dreams. Whether it’s becoming a supervisor, mastering a new therapeutic modality, or contributing to the field through writing and product development, we offer monthly consultations and one-on-one support to help you get there.
A Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence
Here, you’re not just joining a group practice; you’re becoming part of a collaborative
Our Commitment to Exclusivity and Support
At Phoenix Arise, we are all in for our clinicians. We invest wholeheartedly in your growth, your education, and your success. In return, we ask for the same commitment. To maintain the high level of support and focus we provide, we do have a non-compete clause. This means that while you’re with us, we ask that you do not work for another group practice or run your own private practice at the same time. We believe that by focusing your energy here, you’ll find the professional fulfillment and support you deserve.
