Introducing Kelly!

We asked Kelly to help us get to know her a little more. Keep reading to learn more about her!

What made you want to be a therapist?

I’ve always known that I wanted to work with other people to help them discover their own potential. Over the years, that goal has changed a bit to a desire to help folks discover that they’re utterly wonderful as they are, but that healthy change is possible. I believe my roles working with others as a camp counselor, babysitter, teacher, and case manager have all guided me to become a therapist.

What populations do you enjoy working with? Which one(s) do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy working with kids ages 5 and up and their caregivers, teens, young adults, and adults who are feeling stuck and feeling the urge to get curious about new ways to approach their difficulties. I especially enjoy working with ages 12 and up who are struggling with issues related to their identity, turning negative feelings towards themself, grief, past trauma, and those who may want to break away from habits that no longer serve them. I also enjoy working with folks who are neurodivergent and living with sensory sensitivities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and learning differences.

What is something you wish clients knew about therapy?

Your therapist truly cares about you, regardless of whatever your shame tells you should keep you disconnected from others.

Where are you from?

I grew up in the Midwest in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri.

What is your favorite hobby?

I enjoy hiking with my partner and our Great Pyrenees mix, Willie. We go to the canyons up north or to New Mexico whenever we get the chance.

Cats or Dogs?

Big fluffy dogs, but truly, I’m an animal fan in general.

What is your favorite season?

Fall! After living in warmer climates for 6 years, I’m glad to be living somewhere where fall actually exists.

What is your favorite book?

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez

What is your favorite quote?

“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” ― Brené Brown

What do you love the most about being a therapist?

I love witnessing the deep emotional work and perspective shifts that come from one-on-one or small group work. My clients are among the most courageous people I know.

We are delighted to have Kelly as part of the Phoenix Arise team! Reach out today if you’d like to schedule an appointment with her.
